Child Friendly Research Network Launch

As we celebrate 30 years since the publication of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), we invite you to join us in developing an interdisciplinary Child Friendly Research Network for the University of Lincoln, underpinned by the aims and values of the UNCRC.

Hosted by Dr Sue Bond-Taylor and Dr Anna Tarrant, a network launch starting with a welcome from Vice Chancellor Mary Stuart. We are looking to establish an interdisciplinary Child Friendly Research Network at the University of Lincoln, which provides academics from across the University the opportunity to come together to develop work around children, young people, and families more broadly. We know that there are colleagues right across the University who are doing some important work in this field. While our specific interests are in the social sciences, we'd really like this to go beyond the College of Social Science and be a truly interdisciplinary research network.

We therefore welcome those with relevant interests across a range of disciplines, for example in health and medicine, computer science, the arts, geography, and architecture and the built environment.

  • Thursday 21st November
  • The Orange Room - Think Tank
  • 1:15-4pm

As a starting point, we propose the following objectives for the Child Friendly Research Network:

  • Supporting university staff to engage in ‘child friendly’ approaches to undertaking research, dissemination and public engagement.
  • Exploring interdisciplinary solutions to the problems affecting children and young people, and building research collaborations and grant funding bids across colleges.
  • Establishing mechanisms for young people’s participation within research which help to shape research agendas that matter to them.
  • Developing partnerships with local organisations and institutions that work with children and young people, with a view to generating research impact and enterprise opportunities.
  • Promoting child and family friendly ways of working within academia, with consideration to care, relationships and work-life balance.
  • Through all of this work, contributing to the aims of the Children of Lincoln initiative which was launched in 2017 in order to develop a UNICEF Child Friendly City strategy for Lincoln.

We welcome input from other colleagues in shaping the aims and activities of this new network, and there will be time in the launch event for these discussions.
